Eric has been in education for more than 15 years in a variety of roles. He served as a science teacher at a K-12 in St. Louis, Missouri, acted as a dorm parent at a boarding school in Austria, and held the position of Director of Sustainability at a public secondary school here in the Los Angeles area. Eric holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Anthropology and Human Biology from Emory University in Atlanta. Eric received his M.A. degree in teaching from New York University, and has a PhD in Education and Human Development from the University of Colorado, Denver. His dissertation focused on using the local environment and facilities as teaching tools. In 2009, Eric co-founded a company that reviewed sustainability products, consulted with schools in integrating sustainability into their programs, and published nearly 1,000 articles over 6 years. Among his passions in education are bringing the local environment into the classroom as well as taking students out of the classroom and into the world around them. When he's not working, Eric enjoys hiking, cooking, reading with his 9-year-old son, and chasing his 6-year-old son. Eric is very excited to join the team at Manzanita as the 7th grade Unit fo Study, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra teacher.
